[ Getting by? Spock cannot resist picking apart the logic in that idiom. Not just because he finds it mentally gratifying to pick apart the logic in human idioms and watch people around hasten to explain, but because he knows what getting by means, and this -

Getting by is an ill-suited choice of words in this instance, Captain. It means to barely subsist. I 'got by' in the Vulcan Forge by discovering edible fruits and vegetation, when I was seven. A feast of such immense portions is more than subsisting.

[ He carries the already prepared food to the table, arranging the dishes for ease of access, and deliberately spends more than a few minutes aligning the plates to precise angles. ]

While you are correct in your statement that another individual might be a better chef, you are at a disadvantage, spending as much as you do on a starship.
