[ text post ] Write me a letter / Write it today

texts. texts from last night. sexting. angry angsty texts.
just leave me short, simple things to respond to during commute hours.

Issues is an apt phrasing.

Is your CMO aware of the work that needs to be done?

She is, but she could only manage to be more insistent if she was a Vulcan. ...Maybe a Klingon. Do they have medical officers, you think?

It's possible I haven't slept in three days. Maybe four? But there was a slight battle and we got damaged and now we're late for the important meeting and I was... being Captain while I should've been working on these negotiation plans.

Also, upon reflection, I have horribly neglected to ask how you are doing. I apologise, Ambassador Spock. How are you?

One suspects that yes, they have medical officers, even if just to ensure they do not need to staff their ships with new officers constantly.

Negotiations will go the way they will, even without your careful planning. Do you not have a first officer to assist with these matters?

I am satisfactory. Colony life continues apace, with much progress.

It might, perhaps, maybe, be possible that I sent her to bed.

[The hypocrisy doesn't escape her, but everyone was tired and she was the only one who was Captain, the only one who had to remain as far as she was concerned.]

Do you really think the timeline so fixed that preparations mean little? I would hope hard work had at least some effect.

I'm glad the colony is progressing... perhaps if I ever let myself get kicked off my ship for shore leave I could come visit and offer an extra pair of hands.

Did she also require sleep? I discovered that is often the case.

It is not the timeline that is fixed but rather personality. The negotiations will go the way they do because of the persuasion and engagement one brings, regardless of the preparation prior. Though preparation is vital, but sometimes better left in the hands of those who have the time to dedicate to the minute of the matters.

It would defeat the purpose of shore leave, Captain. But more hands is never amiss.

She was exhausted, but she would've stayed up for my benefit if I let her. I'm lucky to have her. Everyone was tired, but I am Captain. It's my responsibility when push comes to shove. And besides, Humans keel over quicker than Trill.

[Most of that was true, at least, she cared deeply for her officers and would rather suffer herself than let them when there was no need. It was debatable if Trill had more endurance than Humans, but at least in this case she wasn't lying. Stubbornness was one hell of a stimulant.]

I just don't want to get it wrong. So many things have gone poorly of late, I'm not sure I could forgive myself if this did as well.

And, as for that, I happen to find helping others relaxing. I can bring my flute if that makes it seem like more of a holiday.
